My Powerful 5-Step Method for Owning Your Greatness

As I write this post we’re just a few days away from spring, the season of renewal. This is a beautiful time of year to commit to greatness and shed everything that isn’t serving you. (For all the Spirit Junkies in the southern hemisphere, the shift into autumn is just as perfect a time!)

Trust that no matter when you’re reading this blog post, you were led here for a reason. You can step into your greatness in any moment you choose.

What are you ready to call in?

Ask yourself: What is it that you’re ready to stand in?

  1. What is the greatness that I’m ready to stand in now? (In other words: Who am I here to be?)
  2. What do I need to release in order to step into this greatness?

It’s okay if you don’t have the answers right at this moment. Let yourself contemplate these questions and bring awareness to what you’re ready for, and what you need to do so that you can manifest it.

In order to step into our greatness and get into alignment with our truth, we have to start to shift our vibrational frequency. We do this by becoming conscious of what we want to leave behind and what we want to call in.

When you commit to greatness, you can let go of everything that holds you back — littleness, doubt, judgment, negative stories, attack thoughts and so on. You can show up fully.

How to commit to your greatness: A 5-step method

These five steps will help you commit to your greatness and attract the success and joy you desire most! Keep reading to learn the method I live by.

Step 1: Focus on what’s thriving

The first step in committing to our greatness is to start focusing on what’s right, what’s good and what’s thriving.

Evidence of everything that isn’t thriving is always available to us. We spend much of our days dwelling on drama, chaos, negative news, lack, uncertainty and all the things outside ourselves that we think we need to have in order to feel safe and complete.

The question is not what you look at, but what you see | Henry David ThoreauBut what if we started just focusing on what’s thriving? What if we started to focus on people who inspire us, empowering stories and beautiful experiences?

What if we started to read more about people who have transformed their lives, rather than reading about people who are destroying their lives?

What if we started to read news stories that highlight creativity, innovative ideas and inspiring movements? This doesn’t mean you don’t stay informed about what’s going on in the world. It means you consciously choose to look through a different lens.

  • If you have a diagnosis, consider shifting your focus to people who are thriving with your same illness.
  • If you’re in a field that seems like it’s hard to break through, focus on the stories of people who had those breakthroughs.
  • If you want a romantic relationship, focus on the successful relationships that surround you.

If you’re holding a judgment toward yourself in some way, focus on what’s thriving in your life. Focus on what feels good about you. Remember, what’s wrong is pretty much always available to us. We’re surrounded by stories of what’s not working, of limitation and doubt, all the time.

So I challenge you to bring to your awareness everything that is thriving!

What is the world you choose to see?

Step 2: Make your well-being a priority

Gabby Bernstein taking a walkWhen I wrote my first book, Add More ~ing to Your Life, I wanted to share how I found my inner awareness in the early stages of my spiritual practice. I did this by moving my body.

When we move our bodies in ways that feel good and joyful to us, we feel stronger and more empowered. Physical movement is an awesome way to shift your energy, because we get blood pumping, release endorphins and shake up stagnation. We can use our bodies as vehicles for deepening our spiritual connection.

As you commit to your greatness, start to move more. Move in whatever way is available to you, and bring more spiritual awareness to your physical practice.

Physical movement is a big part of my ~ing Equation in Add More ~ing to Your Life. You may want to check out (or revisit) this process and bring it into your practice! It consists of these basic steps:

  1. Rethinking: Replacing negative thoughts with loving ideas
  2. Rethinking + Moving: Layering affirmations with physical activity
  3. Receiving: Meditating and ~ing-writing (free-writing) to connect with your intuition and receive inspiration

Rebounding and affirming

Add More ~ing to Your Life: A Hip Guide to Happiness, by Gabrielle BernsteinOne of my favorite ways to combine movement and affirmations is by jumping on a mini trampoline! You can put on inspiring music and recite affirmations as you jump. I’ll say affirmations such as:

  • I am strong
  • I am healthy
  • I am vibrant
  • I am happy
  • I am abundant

You can also dance or jump rope. This is very empowering and energizing way to start the day.

Step 3: Compassionately turn your failures into opportunities for success

I want to be completely honest: There are many, many failures I experience in my day-to-day life. Little moments where I could have been less judgmental, a little kinder, a little stronger and so on.

When this happens, I say, “Hmm, Gabby, how are you going to love yourself back to success now?” Success for me is self-kindness and self-compassion, so how am I going to compassionately see these moment-to-moment failures as opportunities for success? How am I going to love myself back to success now?

I do it by honoring my mistakes as steps on my journey. Imagine if you started looking at mistakes that you’ve made through a different lens. See them as opportunities, as growth, and as stepping stones on your path of personal and spiritual development.

Don’t look back with regret

I find a deeper meaning and personal growth amid the discomfort | Gabby Bernstein | The Universe Has Your Back card deckI never look back with regret. I look at all the moments where I’ve made mistakes, and I witness them without judgment. Instead of looking back and feeling regretful or resentful, can you recognize how it was all in divine order? Can you see how each experience was divinely guided so that you can step into your greatness now?

We don’t need to suffer and struggle to be happy and successful, but let’s also appreciate that we wouldn’t be who we are today without all the lessons that we’ve learned. If we can turn that discomfort into growth, that is a miracle.

Let the stories from your past inspire the person that you want to be in the present. Who do you want to be? What is this greatness that you want to step into? Look back on all those stories, judgments, mistakes, failures and dramas and say thank you. “Thank you. I’ve got more to learn. I’ve got more to heal.”

Step 4: Want more for others

Be optimistic for others and your good fortune will multiply. Give more of what you want to receive. Be generous in whatever ways you can. Be generous with your time, your money, your energy, your prayers and your intentions.

Even if you’re thinking, “I don’t have anything to give right now,” you can give your commitment and your energy. Maybe pick up the phone and give an ear to a friend that needs you. Share in a friend’s joy and help them reach the success they desire!

Being optimistic for others is part of this giving. Pray for others to have all the things that you want for yourself. Start wanting more for others and watch your good fortune multiply.

Step 5: Claim an energy of certainty

When you believe you can do it, you attract support from the Universe and you step into an energy of greatness. The people that have moved mountains and achieved beyond their wildest dreams are people who believed.

That belief system is what allowed them to embody an energy of greatness. You assume an energy of greatness when you believe with certainty in what you desire. As a result, you start to claim what you want.

When you don’t believe it will work, you’ll deflect what you want. You avoid stepping in and you don’t take the perceived risk. Even if you do try, you won’t show up with all your energy and commitment.

When you have faith in the Universe, you can do less and attract more | Gabby BernsteinBut when you start to stand in your certainty, that’s when an invisible force beyond your own takes over. That’s when you open that door. In this certainty you reach out to that person you want to date, or get into vibrant physical health, or start to heal the belief systems that hold you back.

Certainty gives you momentum. As Dr. Wayne Dyer said, you must believe it to see it. Your certainty will make it easier for you to allow something that may seem impossible. My greatest desires have all come into form once I believed in them, released my own agenda and turned over the timeline.

Surrender your desires to the Universe and know with certainty that they are coming to you. They will show up in ways far beyond what you can imagine.

Your words were like a soothing balm and reminded me most Timely that I am here to serve higher power purposes not please a man. A lot of us tend to hate ourselves for our past mistakes, and we think they made us bad, and we continue to feel bad in the present…. and that’s exactly how we MISS our lives because we spend our present moment in the past!
