My Powerful 5-Step Method for Owning Your Greatness

As I write this post we’re just a few days away from spring, the season of renewal. This is a beautiful time of year to commit to greatness and shed everything that isn’t serving you. (For all the Spirit Junkies in the southern hemisphere, the shift into autumn is just as perfect a time!)

Trust that no matter when you’re reading this blog post, you were led here for a reason. You can step into your greatness in any moment you choose.

What are you ready to call in?

Ask yourself: What is it that you’re ready to stand in?

Gabby Bernstein journaling | Create your faith statementWhat is the greatness that you’re ready to stand in now? You can open your journal and free-write your answer to these two questions:

  1. What is the greatness that I’m ready to stand in now? (In other words: Who am I here to be?)
  2. What do I need to release in order to step into this greatness?

It’s okay if you don’t have the answers right at this moment. Let yourself contemplate these questions and bring awareness to what you’re ready for, and what you need to do so that you can manifest it.

In order to step into our greatness and get into alignment with our truth, we have to start to shift our vibrational frequency. We do this by becoming conscious of what we want to leave behind and what we want to call in.

When you commit to greatness, you can let go of everything that holds you back — littleness, doubt, judgment, negative stories, attack thoughts and so on. You can show up fully.

How to commit to your greatness: A 5-step method

These five steps will help you commit to your greatness and attract the success and joy you desire most! Keep reading to learn the method I live by.

Step 1: Focus on what’s thriving

The first step in committing to our greatness is to start focusing on what’s right, what’s good and what’s thriving.

Evidence of everything that isn’t thriving is always available to us. We spend much of our days dwelling on drama, chaos, negative news, lack, uncertainty and all the things outside ourselves that we think we need to have in order to feel safe and complete.

The question is not what you look at, but what you see | Henry David ThoreauBut what if we started just focusing on what’s thriving? What if we started to focus on people who inspire us, empowering stories and beautiful experiences?

What if we started to read more about people who have transformed their lives, rather than reading about people who are destroying their lives?

What if we started to read news stories that highlight creativity, innovative ideas and inspiring movements? This doesn’t mean you don’t stay informed about what’s going on in the world. It means you consciously choose to look through a different lens.

  • If you have a diagnosis, consider shifting your focus to people who are thriving with your same illness.
  • If you’re in a field that seems like it’s hard to break through, focus on the stories of people who had those breakthroughs.
  • If you want a romantic relationship, focus on the successful relationships that surround you.

If you’re holding a judgment toward yourself in some way, focus on what’s thriving in your life. Focus on what feels good about you. Remember, what’s wrong is pretty much always available to us. We’re surrounded by stories of what’s not working, of limitation and doubt, all the time.

So I challenge you to bring to your awareness everything that is thriving!

Henry David Thoreau wrote, “The question is not what you look at, but what you see.”

What is the world you choose to see?

Step 2: Make your well-being a priority

Gabby Bernstein taking a walkWhen I wrote my first book, Add More ~ing to Your Life, I wanted to share how I found my inner awareness in the early stages of my spiritual practice. I did this by moving my body.

When we move our bodies in ways that feel good and joyful to us, we feel stronger and more empowered. Physical movement is an awesome way to shift your energy, because we get blood pumping, release endorphins and shake up stagnation. We can use our bodies as vehicles for deepening our spiritual connection.

As you commit to your greatness, start to move more. Move in whatever way is available to you, and bring more spiritual awareness to your physical practice.

Physical movement is a big part of my ~ing Equation in Add More ~ing to Your Life. You may want to check out (or revisit) this process and bring it into your practice! It consists of these basic steps:

  1. Rethinking: Replacing negative thoughts with loving ideas
  2. Rethinking + Moving: Layering affirmations with physical activity
  3. Receiving: Meditating and ~ing-writing (free-writing) to connect with your intuition and receive inspiration

Rebounding and affirming

Add More ~ing to Your Life: A Hip Guide to Happiness, by Gabrielle BernsteinOne of my favorite ways to combine movement and affirmations is by jumping on a mini trampoline! You can put on inspiring music and recite affirmations as you jump. I’ll say affirmations such as:

  • I am strong
  • I am healthy
  • I am vibrant
  • I am happy
  • I am abundant

You can also dance or jump rope. This is very empowering and energizing way to start the day.

Step 3: Compassionately turn your failures into opportunities for success

I want to be completely honest: There are many, many failures I experience in my day-to-day life. Little moments where I could have been less judgmental, a little kinder, a little stronger and so on.

When this happens, I say, “Hmm, Gabby, how are you going to love yourself back to success now?” Success for me is self-kindness and self-compassion, so how am I going to compassionately see these moment-to-moment failures as opportunities for success? How am I going to love myself back to success now?

I do it by honoring my mistakes as steps on my journey. Imagine if you started looking at mistakes that you’ve made through a different lens. See them as opportunities, as growth, and as stepping stones on your path of personal and spiritual development.

Don’t look back with regret

I find a deeper meaning and personal growth amid the discomfort | Gabby Bernstein | The Universe Has Your Back card deckI never look back with regret. I look at all the moments where I’ve made mistakes, and I witness them without judgment. Instead of looking back and feeling regretful or resentful, can you recognize how it was all in divine order? Can you see how each experience was divinely guided so that you can step into your greatness now?

We don’t need to suffer and struggle to be happy and successful, but let’s also appreciate that we wouldn’t be who we are today without all the lessons that we’ve learned. If we can turn that discomfort into growth, that is a miracle.

Let the stories from your past inspire the person that you want to be in the present. Who do you want to be? What is this greatness that you want to step into? Look back on all those stories, judgments, mistakes, failures and dramas and say thank you. “Thank you. I’ve got more to learn. I’ve got more to heal.”

Step 4: Want more for others

Be optimistic for others and your good fortune will multiply. Give more of what you want to receive. Be generous in whatever ways you can. Be generous with your time, your money, your energy, your prayers and your intentions. One piece of wisdom I’ve always loved is from Tony Robbins. He says, “The secret to living is giving.”

Tweet: In order to step into our greatness, we have to become conscious of what we want to leave behind and what we want to call in. @gabbybernstein #spiritjunkie #superattractor

Even if you’re thinking, “I don’t have anything to give right now,” you can give your commitment and your energy. Maybe pick up the phone and give an ear to a friend that needs you. Share in a friend’s joy and help them reach the success they desire!

Being optimistic for others is part of this giving. Pray for others to have all the things that you want for yourself. Start wanting more for others and watch your good fortune multiply.

Step 5: Claim an energy of certainty

When you believe you can do it, you attract support from the Universe and you step into an energy of greatness. The people that have moved mountains and achieved beyond their wildest dreams are people who believed.

That belief system is what allowed them to embody an energy of greatness. You assume an energy of greatness when you believe with certainty in what you desire. As a result, you start to claim what you want.

When you don’t believe it will work, you’ll deflect what you want. You avoid stepping in and you don’t take the perceived risk. Even if you do try, you won’t show up with all your energy and commitment.

When you have faith in the Universe, you can do less and attract more | Gabby BernsteinBut when you start to stand in your certainty, that’s when an invisible force beyond your own takes over. That’s when you open that door. In this certainty you reach out to that person you want to date, or get into vibrant physical health, or start to heal the belief systems that hold you back.

Certainty gives you momentum. As Dr. Wayne Dyer said, you must believe it to see it. Your certainty will make it easier for you to allow something that may seem impossible. My greatest desires have all come into form once I believed in them, released my own agenda and turned over the timeline.

Surrender your desires to the Universe and know with certainty that they are coming to you. They will show up in ways far beyond what you can imagine.

Expect miracles

There are so many miracles in front of you and so much is ready to unfold. Give yourself the opportunity to dive deep. Own your greatness. You are a being who is capable of anything. You can shine more brightly than you ever thought possible. A world beyond your wildest dreams is waiting for you.

  5. Thank you so much for this Gabby. It’s super helpful and inspiring, as I have been struggling with trusting the Universe to bring me my dreams. Sometimes I feel like if I surrender them to the Divine and stop struggling, they will never happen. I’m happy to know that your biggest dreams came about through surrender.

    1. I know so many people can relate to what you shared. The shifts really start to happen once we surrender and are open to receiving. <3

  6. Thankyou so much Gabby. You just lifted me tremendously by your inspirational words. I have three key words to remember as I go through my week – thriving, believing and physical. Key words to help me to focus on such positive, helpful concepts.

  7. I love reading your inspirational
e-mails. I read about you and understand how far your journey has come .
I seem to have a wall around me where I won’t let my feeling out or let others in. I’m working on it with your help.
    Thankyou

  8. For the last couple of months, I have been healing from a severe depression. A few nights a go I was on my knees thanking God and I heard the loudest soft voice saying: ‘Write. Write your story down.’
I have always wanted to be a published author and succesful screenwriter and lately I have been given the opportunity to actually write for two tv series. But I was stressing out because I felt like ‘O my, this is my one and only chance’. Then, this morning after my meditation, I felt lighthearted. Again I heard this voice: ‘I want you to write about you, about this girl that has so much healing power that is time for her to start writing down her story. It doesn’t matter in what form, because I will bring you what you need.’ And I was like: but who am I to tell my story, and in what form, and will there be enough time to do all the other things? And then I opened my mail and there was this post from you. ‘Who are you here to be?’
This is magic. And Gabby, this last sentence: ‘A world beyond your wildest dreams is waiting for you.’ Thank you.

  9. Thank you so much Gabby for this today. Your inspirational messages confirm for me how far I’ve come but also how much more I can do! I am enjoying the journey as much as I am enjoying knowing the manifestation is right around the corner. Setting aside any fear I have to start something new and just giving that to the Universe. Finding joy in every day, that’s my focus.

  10. Thank you so much for this! It’s helped me to see that I don’t fully believe that I can create what I would like to create. That shifts now. Thank you Gabby!

  11. This article is definitely a Divine moment for me, as already this morning I have written about wanting to step more into my greatness and vibrancy! When I journaled about 2019 at the start of this year, the word that kept coming up for me was greatness! There are no coincidences. So as I sit here on this Monday morning, vaccilating between believing I can have a great day (week, year, life), and the fear that I may have hardships with my health or trauma healing, etc…this article reminds me that there are tangible things I can do to lean into the greatness!! This is beautiful, thank you Gabby! ♡♡♡

  12. Dear Gabby, you always have this way of delivering the exact message I need to hear at the right time. I am about to go through a major change with my career and I have fear of the unknown. A lot of fear. Yet, I know it’s the right decision. And when I sit back and repeat to myself that the Universe has my back, sudden calm washes over me. I wish I could get to the point where I can always maintain that state of calm and living in the present moment. I wear my emotions on my sleeve and I find that it can upset other people around me and that’s hard to know in that moment how to control that. Working through this always.

    1. You’re doing great work Laura. Continue to express yourself and feel your feelings, and listen to that inner guidance. Trust that there is a gorgeous plan for you.

  13. This was EXACTLY what I needed to hear!! I woke up feeling so sad and defeated today. I got some coffee and started my morning routine of praying, meditating, and journaling. After I got done praying and crying LOL I reached for my phone and saw this email. Thank you, thank you, thank you! I said a prayer that I choose to see love instead of this and I received what I needed! Thank you for your messages and love!

  14. Thank you for writing this beautiful and inspiring piece (I initially accidentally wrote “peace” which may be more accurate).

I gave my copy of THE UNIVERSE HAS YOUR BACK to my sister a while ago. Unbeknownst to her, her daughter was reading a copy of her own around the same time. Then, without mentioning it to me, my daughter bought one. She’s reading it now and getting a lot from it, like the rest of us.

Thanks again for the good things you put out in the world.

  15. I feel good today and this has helped me to be more in alignment. I know who I want to be and I’m choosing to be her in this moment. Thank you Gabby for your love. P.S. you share the same name as my Spirit Guide

  16. Thank you, Gabby! This post was a wonderful gift to receive this morning. I don’t yet know exactly who I am here to be, but I am working on releasing the limiting beliefs, patterns of behavior, and self-judgements that have held me back. I’m focusing on what is beautiful and thriving in my life. I can FEEL a shift in my energy and know with certainty that these shifts are happening in preparation for me to realize my greatness. Thank you so much for sharing your vast knowledge.

  17. Thank you for this blog! It is exactly what I needed this morning as I started the day by giving away my power. Love being a miracle member. Best decision of 2019!

    1. YAY Sandra! Grateful that you’re part of the always inspiring Miracle Membership community. Sending loving energy your way. <3

  18. Beautiful article! You have changed my life completely. Because of your books, talks, and meditations, I have been able to heal a lot of judgements against my abuser and I have been able to start my forgiveness process. Much love and Sat Nam!

  19. Hi Gabby!
Thank you again for another great message. My husband has been suffering from severe treatment-resistant depression, anxiety and C-PTSD. There are days that this is all he wants to discuss. I have a new career as an artist after waiting 30 years to do it. Trying to help him and do my work has been art has been difficult. And knowing what to do or say for him isn’t easy, either. (Although, I do feel like the MM work has helped me immensely.) It is a concerted effort to stay positive but because I follow these steps (eat clean, daily workouts, meditation, my intuitive art practice and gratitude practices), it makes it all do-able. It’s amazing to see how strong we really are with the help of the Universe and supportive people like you and the MM members!

    1. Lisa you are an inspiration. Keep showing up for yourself in these gorgeous ways. Thank you for being part of the amazing MM community! <3

  20. Make my well being a priority….
This speaks to me because I care for my grandmother who needs constant care. I need to find ways to continue making myself a priority as I put the well being of others b4 myself. Thank you for the message.

  21. Amazing how this message is just what I needed to make a shift to start the week miracle minded. I asked for spirit to help me respond to feeling judged by a family member this morning with compassion and your blog popped into my inbox. Thank you!!
    Cassie

  22. Dear Gabby, I am several months into my program att IIN which I signed up through your writing about it. I am contemplating putting it on hold as I feel very lost. I have an 18 year old special needs son, and while I have been divorced since he was 3 weeks old, about a year and a half ago his dad completely walked away. My son is an absolutely beautiful soul. Both he and he brother , who is 21 live with me fill time. I am very fortunate that I can work from home too. But it is a lot somedays, and I am having to swallow a very large resentment pill towards their dad. He is taking vacations, growing his career, no responsibility at all. I feel a bit trapped, and feel bad that I feel this way. I get a lot of backtalk and anger from one son, love from the other. I can’t leave my younger son at home by himself, I get very, very little time alone. I sound very whiny but questioning my desire to finish my course, and if I have the emotional capacity to help others.

    1. Know that all the brave and loving decisions you make for yourself and your sons send an amazing message to them and the Universe. Keep showing up for YOU, so that you then feel nourished and able to show up for the boys and anyone else. You’re doing great. It’s OK to take it one day at a time. <3

  23. This is just what I needed today. I have a couple of projects that I am so close to finishing and no idea why I haven’t made it to the finish line yet. This is the spiritual kick up the pants I needed. Thank you Gabby.

    xx

  24. Thank you Gabby. Today I’ve reached a pivotal part of a dream I’ve been manifesting for over two years. The most challenging thing that’s left for me to do is to step outside of the safe comfortable world I have spent my life creating which has brought little else other than financial gain. I know the universe is inviting me to step into my dream with certainty but this is the scariest thing to do. Your post today has reminded me to believe in my greatness and not be afraid to shed the materialistic comforts in my pursuit of my dream for these things do not define who I am. Namaste x

  25. I need to focus! My life is ok. Loving boyfriend. Nice job. Nice apartment. I love where I live. But I am 36 and still no clue what I want to do with my life! I came across Gabby while going to IIN. Her energy is like a baby voice I have inside that is screaming I can be better than just ok! Getting clients and being a health coach may not be my thing. But I am so ready to find my purpose and start thriving! Let’s go Monday! We got this. 🙂

I am really feeling the pressure of time not being on my side. Send good thoughts!

    Thanks Gabby!

    1. Thanks for this beautiful and brave share. Know that the Universe has a plan in store for you. Try the daily mantra “my purpose is to be the light and see the light in others” and see how this shifts your energy <3

  26. Needed this message today. Went to my car at lunch to breathe and found your email awaiting. Thank you for this. I have always loved your voice. Going to pull out one of your books tonight when I get home to keep the inspiration and momentum. Trusting the universe.

  27. Hi Gabby,

Thank you for this post. All of it has been really refreshing to read and I’m excited to already see the wheels in my mind churning as to how I can apply this in my own life.

One thing that’s been holding me back is this idea that nothing is certain. When I start to feel confident or sure of something, I begin to feel fearful and think maybe I’m being self-righteous or “big-headed.” How would you suggest clearing this?

    1. That’s your ego popping in and causing fearful feelings. When that voice comes up, acknowledge it, thank it for its feedback, and then check back in with your inner guidance. Your intuition will always come from a place of love. Keep making those choices (big or small!) from that place of love and confidence, rather than from a place of fear. XOX

  28. Thank you so much Gabby. I spent the whole weekend preparing for a meeting with my bosses to debate about my salary and a very unfair bonus cut after a year of hard work and great results. I knew I was right, but I was lacking confidence, I was afraid and my energy was down. I wasn’t owning my success until I red your post. I suddenly realized that I had to step into that energy of certainty and greatness. I had a great meeting! I don’t know if I will get the management to change my bonus right now, but I feel so successful! I feel strong, confident and proud of what I have achieved. I know the Universe will respond to this energy. Thank you for being in my path today.

  29. Such kind words and sentiment. Something to guide me through these difficult times. Thank you. I feel things very deeply and this helps. I trust the universe with all my being, love with all my heart. Thank you for being inspirational. Big love. 🙂

  30. Thanks so much Gabby – I used to believe this was so and used to manifest more. So I think for me it’s about going even deeper – and also being more honest about what I really want to do and not let my fear of judgement hold me back.

  31. I did that last week. I gave my time to someone who needs help so badly. I also recently felt blocked to the point of not sleeping. I stopped trying to control the outcome, surrendered to the Universe and my miracles are opening up like a lotus flower. I’m so glad I had my first book of yours dropped in front of me……………… “ literally” my life has taken a slow but positive turn I’ve waited years to take! Thank you for sharing your precious knowledge and insight with the world! Peace and light

  32. Thank you so much. I re-opened, “The Universe Has Your Back” on Friday last. I decided to show up to my spiritual assignment. I’m 52 years old and always dealt with fear and social anxiety since I was a little girl. I can’t remember when I felt truly safe ever. Your book is part of my journey. Love the affirmations, these are like a hand up when anxious thoughts start randomly throughout my day. God bless you.

  33. Thank you Gabby
Just when I needed encouragement and guidance.
Always nice to read your blogs.
wishing all the very best. Take care

  34. Girl, I absolutely love reading your posts especially in the morning before I start my busy day. It gives me boost of positive energy, loving vibe and touch of calmness. I keep focusing on what I can be grateful for and I practice shifting my negative thoughts with your affirmations and guess what, it works magic. I caught myself in a train yesterday thinking beautiful and empowering thoughts, smiling all the way while enjoying stunning nature in Scotland. Thank you Gabby.
    With Love
    Miki

  35. “Let the stories from your past inspire the person you want to be in the present” … Loved this! It is a beautiful way to put it. A lot of us tend to hate ourselves for our past mistakes, and we think they made us bad, and we continue to feel bad in the present…. and that’s exactly how we MISS our lives because we spend our present moment in the past! But of course, all that happened shaped us, and instead of resenting it, we should be INSPIRED by it! Loved this post, thank you Gabby! <3

  36. Thank you Gabby for this. As all things in my path, this article came at a perfect time. I’m about to give birth to my first child. I’m ready to OWN wanting to be the best Mother I can be and the best Wife I can be. I’ve struggled with easing up on my business in preparation for the little one and felt guilty. In the end, everything has a season. I am ready to enter the season of giving as much love as I can to my child and hubby. Love you and all your work! Thank you!!!!

  37. Thank you Gabby I needed to read this today. I’m in the process of bringing a radical new business to life and I need to believe and trust it’s all going to happen. I woke up feeling deflated and now my confidence and faith is restored. Thank you xxx

  38. So wonderful to read this this morning Gabby. I’ve just recently been shredded as a 2 year relationship ends. Your words were like a soothing balm and reminded me most Timely that I am here to serve higher power purposes not please a man. I realize those can both be accomplished but it was not possible in this relationship. Thank you for the suggestions and the message.
