Note: Updated in January 2019 for clarity and additional resources.
In this blog post I’m focusing on the topic of mirroring. As you might know, this is the fourth chapter of my book Add More ~ing to Your Life.
What is mirroring?
Mirroring means that the outside world is a reflection of our internal state. Whatever we project on our internal movie screen is what we perceive in the outside world.
In this blog post and in the video below, I’m going to teach you 4 steps to activate the mirroring process!
The transformation is miraculous. When we practice mirroring we start letting people off the hook. We stop pointing the finger at others and start looking inward for guidance and personal growth and development.
4 steps to manifest a mirroring practice
Step 1: Look inward
The first step is to start witnessing how you have been blaming others and the outside world for your uncomfortable internal state.
In what ways have you been pointing the finger at everyone else saying, “If it weren’t for my boss, I’d be happy. If it weren’t for my boyfriend acting this way, I’d be happy. If it weren’t for my parents not believing in my, I’d be happy.”
Stop thinking that something outside of you is affecting you negatively, and start looking inward for guidance. Ask your inner guide for help.

Step 2: Practice the mirroring meditation
A great way to tap into your inner guide is to meditate. You can use my mirroring meditation to check in with your inner state. Ask yourself, “What is it inside of me that is feeling this way that is activating this outside circumstance? And what is it in me that is therefore reflecting this outside experience?”
Connect with your inner guidance system, and you’ll get to a place of understanding your own part in this outcome.
For example, if you feel as though people don’t believe in you, the first question you want to ask yourself is, “Do I believe in me?” Or if you think that the outside world isn’t giving you the money that you want, ask yourself, “Do I believe that I’m worthy of receiving?” Begin to look inward.

Step 3: Start flowing
The third step is to do what I call ~ing writing or free writing. Following the mirroring meditation, let your pen flow for 10 or 15 minutes, and write about whatever comes up for you. Don’t edit or second-guess anything. Allow your intuition to come forward.
When you let the voice of your inner guide to come forward, it will guide you further through the writing process.
Step 4: Be accountable
Finally, you want to look at the change you need to create and begin to clean house. When you do your own work, you can then stop pointing the finger at others and stop blaming the outside world for all of your negative feelings and experiences. You’ll start to see things with a more positive point of view.
I’ll turn inward and ask myself questions like:
- What’s coming up for me?
- What am I thinking?
- What am I feeling that is manifesting this in my life, and how am I perpetuating these negative outcomes?
As a result of looking inward, I have the guidance to look forward towards changing my own ways.
