what happens when we die? (& how to reach loved ones)

In this episode of Dear Guides, we’re answering the question so many of us carry quietly: what happens when we die? According to psychic medium John Holland, no one crosses over alone. Someone is always there to meet you, guide you the rest of the way, and walk you through what’s known as a life review, a full-body remembering of the life you just lived.

John Holland has spent almost thirty years communicating with people who have crossed over, reading for thousands of grieving families, and drawing on accounts from people who experienced near death experiences. In this episode, he breaks down what actually happens the moment we die, what happens to our soul, how we reincarnate and how to reach a loved one who has passed.

What Happens When We Die, According to a Psychic Medium

Here’s what John told me, and he was careful to say this is what he’s learned from spirits themselves and from people who experienced near death experiences and came back to describe it.

When you die, you are never alone. Someone is already there to meet you.

“No one ever, ever goes home alone. There is somebody there to help them cross. Always.”

John has heard this pattern hold across almost thirty years of readings: a parent, a grandparent, a spouse, a friend who passed before you, standing right there the moment you leave your body. He says even mothers who’ve lost young children, and worry there’s no one on the other side to greet them, hear the same thing. Someone is always there.

He describes it like this: you leave the physical body, you float above it, and for a moment you can’t quite believe it’s you. Then someone takes you the rest of the way. That’s when, according to what he’s been told, the life review begins.

What Is a Life Review?

A life review is the part of dying that John says stays with people the most, especially the ones who’ve come back to talk about it.

You don’t just remember your life. You feel it, from every side of it.

That means feeling the good you put into the world, and feeling the moments you caused someone pain, from their point of view. John put it simply: you become your own judge and jury on the other side.

I love how he framed the takeaway. If more of us actually knew we’d feel the exact impact of our actions on another person, we might think twice about how we treat people here. That’s not meant to scare you. It’s meant to wake you up to how much this life, right now, actually matters.

Your Deceased Loved Ones Are Still Your Spirit Helpers

One thing John said early in our conversation reframed grief for me in a real way: the people you’ve lost don’t stop being in relationship with you. They just show up differently.

He calls them spirit helpers.

“I like to look at relatives, friends and family on this side as spirit helpers.”

Their job, as John describes it, is to nudge you toward the right place at the right time. A feeling to call someone. An unexplainable urge to take a different route home. A thought about someone right before they text you.

What Spirit Helpers Can (and Can’t) Do For You

This part matters, because it’s easy to romanticize this and expect too much.

John was blunt about the limits. Spirit helpers can guide you, comfort you, and let you know they’re near. What they can’t do is live your life for you or make your decisions for you. He told me about a woman who asked, during a reading, if her late father could help her with money. His answer, through John, was essentially: he wasn’t good with money here, and passing away didn’t make him an accountant.

Another woman wanted her mother, in a reading, to tell her whether to leave her marriage. John was clear that’s not what these connections are for. The people who’ve crossed over can send love and guidance. The actual lessons, the actual choices, are still yours to make while you’re here.

How to Ask For — and Actually Recognize — a Sign

If you’ve lost someone and you’re aching for proof they’re still around, John has a practice for that, and you don’t need to be a medium to do it.

The Happy Photo Practice

Find a photo of your loved one from a genuinely happy moment. Set it in front of you somewhere quiet. Put your phone in another room. Light a candle if you have one. Then, in John’s words, just invite them in.

“When the mind is quiet, the soul speaks.”

Say their name. Say something simple, like “I’m ready.” Then wait, without rushing it and without demanding a specific response. John says people often feel a breeze, a sudden warmth, or what he calls a “whomp” of sensation, and then immediately start looking for a logical explanation, like the air conditioning. His advice: notice it, and let yourself accept it instead of explaining it away.

He also told me something practical that I hadn’t thought about before: our loved ones take their cues from us. If they sense that a certain sign would upset you rather than comfort you, they’ll hold back. So being open matters as much as asking.

His memorable line for this whole practice: don’t look, don’t stare, be aware. Give it a few days. Signs tend to show up sideways, not on command.

Common Signs of After-Death Communication (ADC)

After-death communication, often shortened to ADC, describes a spontaneous experience of contact from someone who has died, without a medium, ritual, or device involved. John and I talked through the signs people report most often:

  • A specific recurring image, like a butterfly, a cardinal, a penny, or a dime
  • A sudden warmth, breeze, or physical sensation
  • A strong memory or thought that arrives out of nowhere
  • A felt sense that someone is in the room with you
  • A song, show, or moment of unexpected timing that answers something you were just thinking about

For me, blue butterflies are the sign for my son, Owen. During our conversation, John was holding a card deck with blue butterflies on the cover, and I felt him with us the entire time we filmed.

Can Our Loved Ones Hear Us? Mental Telepathy, Explained

I asked John directly whether people on the other side can actually hear us, and his answer was yes, though not in the way we might picture it.

He explained that mediumship works through what he calls mental telepathy, because the people he’s connecting with no longer have a voice box. They send thoughts, images, and impressions, and he receives them the same way. He calls the technique mind mapping: holding onto a single image for just a second, the way one picture can carry a thousand words, instead of naming it too quickly.

He also said something that stuck with me. Our loved ones aren’t tracking our every move. They’re not watching us shower, as he joked. But when we think of them with real emotion attached, especially love, he says that emotion helps the connection travel faster.

“Energy is energy. And when you pass away, that energy is still there. Love is the bridge.”

That’s actually the title of John’s book, Bridging Two Realms, and it’s the clearest way I’ve heard this described: two realms, one bridge, and love is what it’s built from.

Does the Soul Reincarnate? The Oversoul Theory

This is where the conversation went somewhere I didn’t expect, and I think you’ll find it as fascinating as I did.

John doesn’t believe a soul simply leaves one life and enters the next in a single, linear line. He described something closer to what he calls an oversoul: a larger version of you that a single lifetime is drawn from, the way one file is pulled from a hard drive. When that lifetime is complete, the experience goes back into the larger soul, and another piece can come forward into a new life.

He used the image of a sun with rays. Every ray is a different lifetime, and every ray is still connected to, and still part of, the same sun.

That’s why, he explained, a medium can still connect with the specific personality of someone who has passed, even if some part of that soul is already living another life or has moved into a different role, like becoming a guide.

There’s no fixed answer for how long a soul waits before returning. John has seen it happen almost immediately, and he’s seen cases researched over roughly two hundred years apart, and that reincarnation seems to be a choice rather than a fixed rule.

Talking to Kids About Death and the Afterlife

John told me that children often start asking about the afterlife and angels around age seven, and he thinks it’s less about fear and more about their own soul waking up a little more to what’s beyond this life. His advice to parents is simple: let the conversation happen naturally, the same way you’d talk about anything else in daily life. Don’t force it, and don’t push a child to perform being intuitive if that’s not where they naturally are.

I shared with him that my own son has openly told his friends I talk to angels and God, and that I try to normalize it without insisting it’s the only way to see things. Some kids might believe it, some might not, and that’s okay. What matters is that the door stays open.

A Guided Meditation to Reach a Loved One: The Heart Pull

Toward the end of our conversation, John led me through a practice he calls the heart pull, and I want you to actually do this one, not just read about it.

Sit somewhere quiet. Relax your shoulders and your face. Picture someone you’ve lost, someone specific to you. Imagine a cord running from your heart to theirs, tight and real, connecting you.

Say their name in your mind. Then place both hands on your heart and press in gently, three times, slowly.

On the first pull, silently say: I feel you. On the second pull, say: I love you. On the third pull, say: speak now.

Then ask two questions, and wait for whatever comes, without rushing it: What do you want me to feel right now? What do you want me to remember right now?

When I did this with John, I felt my grandmother almost instantly. She showed me her patio in Florida and a clean bathtub from my childhood, small, ordinary images that meant everything, because they were about feeling safe and cared for. That’s often how these messages arrive: not as a dramatic vision, but as a specific, familiar feeling.

John’s advice afterward: write down what came through, even if it seems small. You can return to this practice any time you want to feel that cord again.

If you’re grieving someone right now, I hope this gave you something to hold onto: you are not

disconnected from them, and you don’t need anyone else’s permission to try to feel them again.

Frequently Asked Questions About Life After Death

What happens when we die, according to psychic mediums? John Holland describes leaving the physical body and being met immediately by someone from the other side, so that no one crosses over alone. This is typically followed by what people describe as a life review.

What is a life review? A life review is an experience reported by people who have had near-death experiences, in which they see and feel the full impact of their life, including how their actions affected other people, as if living it again firsthand.

Can you communicate with a deceased loved one? John says you don’t need to be a medium to try. Sit quietly with a favorite photo of your loved one, light a candle, and invite them in, then stay open to whatever sensation, memory, or feeling arrives.

What are common signs of after-death communication (ADC)? People commonly report a recurring image or object (like a butterfly, cardinal, penny, or dime), sudden warmth or a breeze, a vivid memory arriving unprompted, or a felt sense of presence.

Do our loved ones know when we’re thinking about them? John says yes, especially when the thought carries real emotion. He believes love is what helps that connection travel.

Does the soul reincarnate? John describes the soul as multidimensional, like a larger oversoul that individual lifetimes are drawn from, the way rays come from the same sun. Each life stays connected to that larger soul rather than existing as a single, separate loop.

Is there suffering on the other side? John states plainly that there is no suffering on the other side, regardless of how someone lived or how they died.

what happens when we die? (& how to reach loved ones)

Listen on:
A lot of people think that the spirit world is part of our world, when in fact we're a part of their world. Energy is energy, and when you pass away, that energy is still there. Love is the bridge. No one ever, ever goes home alone. There is somebody there to help them cross, always. For someone who's lost a loved one, what's the number one thing you want them to know? Welcome back to Dear Guides. Today, we're talking about life after death. What really happens when we die? Does our soul live on? What is a life review, and can you still communicate with your loved ones in the afterlife? Today, I'm joined by the world-renowned psychic medium John Holland. John has communicated with thousands of souls who have passed, and today he's sharing what they've taught him about the spiritual realm and how you can develop your own psychic gifts. This is a show where you're gonna learn how to connect to the other side. And stick around to the end, because John's going to lead us through a guided meditation so that you can connect to a loved one who has passed. Welcome back to the show, John. Thank you, Gabby. I love you. Good to see you. You have had an entire career channeling deceased loved ones- Sure for people who have had loss, grief, but also wild stories. I mean, you've channeled my grandmother. You've told me lots of stories. Mm-hmm. I think my grammy came to you to tell my brother that his son was coming. Right. I mean, you've told me crazy things. And you've had this beautiful career, and you've, you've offered so much generosity to people that I'm just gonna ask you a big question. What happens after death? Wow. Yeah. So when you, when you pass away, you know, some people see the tunnel. This is only going by, I've never been there, so I can wait till I see this myself, right? I always hear first who was there to meet them. Yes. Okay? So that's, I know somebody is there that helps them, uh, cross over or to keep moving forward. So I think that you leave this physical body, this vessel, and you s- you float above it, and you look at it, d- and you can't even believe it's you. And, you know, and then there's somebody there to take you to the other side. Nobody goes home alone. No one ever, ever, whether they're young, old, fast, or slow, ever goes home alone. There is somebody there to help them cross, always. I've seen this with my mother, and people do see people, you know, deathbed visions. Yeah. They do see people before they pass, and the doctor thinks, "Oh, it must be the, uh, hallucinogenics." And if that is true, Gabby, then why do people, uh, who are about to pass see people that have already crossed and not other people that are alive? Correct. You see what I mean? So I think when you pass away, um, there's someone there to meet you, and you hear about a life review. Right? That's exactly what I was gonna ask you. What is a life review? Exactly. I, from what I hear, like I said, from the people that have passed and from the people that have been resuscitated, right? Those are the ones that are important 'cause they come back to the physical to tell you what happened, and they bring those memories back. They've said that they, uh, there is a life review, and you really see, feel, and hear all the good things that you've done in this world and all the negative things that you've done. So I really believe, Gabby, you will see the things that you have done. Um, and I think that you are your own judge and jury on the other side. And I think if more people knew that you're gonna experience exactly what you just did to that other person on the other side, maybe we'd think twice about what we're doing here. I love the book Journey of the Souls. Mm-hmm. I'll actually link to it below. It's an excellent book, and it really gave me, uh, such a strong knowing, right? Right. A, a, a clear cognizance- Mm-hmm ... of what happens after death. Yeah. It, it sh- talks a lot about what you just shared, the tunnel, uh, that you have, uh, this, a loved one or a guide or an angel that meets you- Mm-hmm to guide you home. Yep. And that you feel almost like this being of light, an energy of light. You're not a physical body anymore. Right. But you have a consciousness. Yeah. You, you, you know what's happening. Yeah. And it's very peaceful and beautiful. And, and whenever I've heard a loved one, whether it come through me or mainly through other mediums, is that they're so happy there, that, that, that it's so peaceful there on the other side. That's what people say to me, Gabby. They're like, "Is my loved one okay?" And I'm like, "Yeah, they're fine." They're great. They're fine. We're not. They're doing just fine. Right? Yeah. And someone's always there to take them home, someone always there. And you know what's really... I've been doing this for c- close to 30 years now. It blows me away every time I see this. What I find amazing, every medium is different. You've talked to a lot of them here. I don't know about, um, some of the other mediums you've had here, but I find that when somebody helps themself cross over, if you understand what I mean by that- Yeah ... okay. Yeah. It's a polite way of saying that. Whether they drank too much or drugs or, uh, deliberate- They never come through alone. What happens is it's always a relative, like a grandmother or a mother or father. So I look at it this way. So someone who helps themself cross over, um, it's almost like they don't have enough energy on their own, like they're healing. Hmm. They need that, uh, extra boost of battery. For me. Yeah. Some mediums may say, "Well, that doesn't happen." For me, it does. Yeah. And by the way, you're gonna hear this a lot, everyone. I've heard this many times where you have mediums talk about how beautiful it is on the side, the colors, the peace, the... You know, some, some people might say this, this is very important, Gabby, say, "Well, why don't I just go there myself right now?" Yeah. John Edward said once, and I'll never forget it, he's- he was always a great mentor to me, too, "The other side isn't meant to be an invitation." How beautiful is that, right? You have to experience the stuff here. Yes. You have- Your soul chose to be here. Exactly. Your soul chose to be here. Believe it or not, some people are like, "What?" For as long as it's meant to be here. Yep. And when it's done, then you go home. Yep. That's right. Then you go home. Yeah. To a lot of people watching that probably pressed play on this episode have a deceased loved one that they probably want to connect with. They know at the end of the video we're gonna do a meditation to connect to our deceased loved ones. That's right. And what they probably are wondering is, John, how do I connect to my deceased loved ones? Yeah. Most people when they look at loved ones or God, they always look up. The spirit world is right around us. It's only, like, three feet away. Do you see what I mean? 'Cause, um, the... It's, like, right here. It's not some far away distant place with them floating on the cloud. It's, you know, it's... You gotta think quantum physics, too, right? Yeah. It's just, it's right around us. A lot of people think that the spirit world is part of our world, when in fact we're a part of their world. Hey, what does that mean? It means that that's the real world, Gabby. This is temporarily. That's home. This is temporarily. And enjoy your youth while you can because it goes very, very fast. Right. I know that, right? So this is the place where we learn here and, you know, uh, where we learn our lessons, and then it, you know, evolve and then go back to the other side. That is the real home. We are and always will be part of their world. You know that thought that you had of your grandmother out of the blue? That, how do you know sh- at the same time she's not thinking of you? Works two ways. Right. That's mental telepathy. You're driving down the street. You haven't been to this store in years. All of a sudden you're drawn to the store. You go in. There's your mother's best friend or your mother's sister. You haven't seen her in years. Um, you've dreamt of them. It's... We're already having connections with them, but we're so good at explaining it away. How weird. How strange. You know? So honor that you already have a connection with them. Energy is energy, and when you pass away, that energy is still there. Love is the bridge. Mm-hmm. That's what brings us closer. That's why my book is called Bridging Two Realms. This world and this world. Love is happen- happening. And this, there's, in the, in my book there's different techniques. Just real quick one, okay? Please give it to us. Um, 'cause you don't need to be a medium, right? If you go to a medium, I mean, I love being a medium. I love that, okay? But if you're getting a message from a medium from a r- loved one, think about it. It's, it's secondhand, right? Go, go try it yourself. Get a picture of a loved one, okay? The happiest picture you see of them. They, they always come through and say, "Please tell my daughter to stop seeing me like I am in the hospital." 'Cause sometimes that image you see of that loved one may not be a beautiful image. They're ill. That's how you remember them. They do not wanna look that way, especially women. Okay? Um, so find the happiest picture, one that they're staring at you with the bright eyes. The happiest picture. Put it down on the table, light a votive candle, get quiet. Go somewhere quiet. When the mind is quiet, the soul speaks, right? Light it and do what every medium does. Open up and invite them in. Your loved ones wanna know, is it okay to come through? Because if, if they know by, uh, them giving you a sign it's gonna upset you, make an emotional, they'll go to somebody else. They take their cues from you. So open up and invite them And just say, "Welcome, I'm ready. I'm ready, Billy. I'm ready, Michael. I'm ready, Mom. I'm ready, Dad." And just be open and give it a moment. Don't demand, don't rush, 'cause we want it instantly. You might feel a breeze. You might feel a kiss. You might feel that warm blanket. You might see s- a color suddenly. Um, you know, look at that photograph, right? Go with the feeling, and don't talk yourself out of it. You might feel a warmth, Gabby. People are gonna start looking for the heat in the room. Or you feel a cool breeze, they're gonna look for the air conditioning vent. Accept it, and they wanna know whether it's an ADC, after-death communication, the blue butterflies, the cardinals, the pennies, the cents, the dimes, right? We're so good at explaining it away. They wanna know on the other side, do they know that I sent that penny? Do I know that I influenced John to give Gabby the blue deck with the butterflies? Acknowledge and say, "Ma, I know that's you." And people say this to me all the time, "John, well, what do they want?" They want you to be happy. They want you to- sometimes it's not a huge message, Gabby. Sometimes it's just, "I'm here. I never left. Please don't grieve for me. I'm right here for you." Yeah. Yeah. And then when they do that, that's ca- and I call that the invitation. The invitation, when you sit down with their photo. With a happy photo. You know, my grandmother just told me to put a photo of her in the room, in the studio. Yeah, there we go. So she's, she's like, "Remember me." Right. "Remember me." Uh, put the photo. John, that's so good. So you guys, put that photo right in front of you. Light a smoke maybe. Open your auric field. Yeah. Put the phone outside the room. Definitely clear the space of all the devices. And keep doing it. But don't... We try to demand. H- uh, let it e- let, let it evolve. I say ask for a sign. It could be something that you agreed with, with th- with this person. Um, give it three days. Give it three days, okay? And just be aware. Don't look, don't stare, be aware of it, because some people are like, "Where's, where's the butterfly? I gotta find the butterfly." It'll happen, you know how it happens, unexpectedly. Do you understand? Don't look, don't stare- Be aware ... be aware. Geez, I just said a rhyme. When you're asking for a sign, don't look, don't stare, be aware. Be aware. Thank you, John. That was excellent. A T-shirt. A mug. That's a mug. Don't look, don't stare, be aware. Yeah. Let's make it. John, that is a beautiful practice for, for connecting to your loved one. What if someone doesn't feel the connection to their loved one, and they want it, and they want it so badly? What do they do? Yeah. Do you know, um, once again, going back to Gabby Bernstein practices, you can strangle it. Don't strangle that desire. Ch- ch- right? Okay. Be open to... All I can say is just be open to any way, and just say, "Ma, I'm ready." And again, th- they, people have to ask, am I really ready to see a sign? I had two sisters in an audience. Having the career that I have, at least I have a lot of examples. I had two sisters in the audience and the, and it was New England. And one of the sisters says, "How come my mother gets, she gets all the signs and I get nothing?" Yeah. And I said- Let me ask you ladies, who's the most sensitive one there? Who's the, who's the sensitive out of the two? She goes, "Oh, I am." I said, "That's why." I said, "You gotta be open and just let your mother know that you are ready for, for them too." So people having tr- uh, the signs, um, think about the sign that you're sending too, though. I think they're getting to Gabby, but they're not even noticing them 'cause they don't... They're looking in the wrong place sometimes, right? They're look... You know. And I asked my mother for a sign, I was missing her one day, and for those who are watching and listening, everyone thinks, "Well, you're a medium. You can talk to your mother all the time." It's not like that. It's not like, "Hey Johnny, how you doing?" "I'm fine, Ma. How are you? Do you have a cup of coffee today?" It's not like that. I feel her, but I can do a better conversation with somebody else's loved one because I know my mother. Do you understand? I was missing her one day on the couch, and I said, "Come on, Ma. I really could use a sign right now." And then on the TV program, on this TV s- no, this, uh, the TV series Outlander, I don't know if a lot of people know that, Roger, who's the son-in-law, starts singing Jenny's song. Oh, wow. Right when I said, "Show me a sign." I said- Mama was Jenny? Yes, exactly. Wow. Yeah. Love it. Yeah. I love this. I love this. I love this. When we feel a spiritual, uh, sensation of another loved one, how do we ride the momentum of that? How do we keep that dialogue going and not cut it off? Remember, it's, your loved ones are just a thought away. Yeah. Okay? That's a good expression here. Keep talking to them s- and it's okay, you may not get an immediate answer back, but just keep talking to, to them in your mind, and I know some people do this. I'll say, "Ma, look at this." You know, just keep going because you're- Talk to them. Cool ... exactly, because they really do hear you. And a lot of people, I know I can joke around a lot, too, do they see everything? Yeah. I think there's, like, I think they have bigger things to do than to see, you know, you in the shower. Yeah. You know what I mean? So- Yeah ... but, um, uh, I know that they, they have their own life, and there's so many stories, Gabby, from the other side. I hear that they're in school. I hear that they're helping kids that have passed away are helping other kids. Um, and I'm, I'm fascinated with the other side. I can't wait to get there, but there's schools, universities, and when a kid passes away, does he... Remember, I find this still like this. I don't know it all. If a kid passes, right, they say that children grow up on the other side, but isn't the soul not a child? Yeah. You see what I mean? So- Yeah ... these answers, I'm still, this is why I find this work fascinating. Yeah. I'll never know it all. Yeah. I've been doing this work for 30 years, but I'm still studying. You say that deceased loved ones can also be helpers. I like to look at relatives, friends, and family on the other side as spirit helpers. Helpers. Yes. Yeah. Yeah. And their job is what? Their job is to, um, help you be at the right place at the right time, give you a little guidance, but they cannot take the lessons that you're meant to learn here. For instance, I had one woman I was doing a reading for, and she said, "Can my father help me with money?" And he passed, and I said, "Well, how was he with money here?" She said, "He sucked." And I said, "He still does." Mm-hmm. Just because you go to the other side doesn't make you an automatic accountant. Right. Right? And then another time, um, I had two, um, two sisters, and their mother came through, and at the end she sighed. I said, "Were you not happy?" She goes, "No, John, I know it was my mother. The reading was good, but my mother never told me in the reading should I divorce my husband." That's not what they're here for. Okay. That's not what they're going to do. They can guide you, put you at the right place at the right time, send you love, let you know that they are there, that they're not dead, um, but you have to learn the lessons here. That's why we're here as the souls. They're there to help you learn the lessons. Right. Got it. I love that. That's beautiful. How long do you think a soul stays on the other side before it reincarnates? Good question. I get this all the time. I had a woman come see me, and she started off like this. I said, "Hi, come on in." And she said, um, "I don't think this reading's gonna go well." Great way to start. And I said, "Why?" She said, "Well, because a medium told me that my mom pa- my mom passed away and she's already reincarnated, and she couldn't get her." And I said, "Well, who's, who's Helen?" She goes, "My mother." I said, "Let's go." So this is my belief. Uh, we know Brian Weiss, Greg Braden, okay, quantum physics. I believe it's like this. I don't believe that there's just one piece of your soul comes in and out, okay? Look at it like this. Uh, there's an oversoul, the bigger part of you, okay? Look at it like a database, okay? All right? Here's the hard drive. The Gabby folder is playing right now, right? And many years from now, when this folder's done all it can, it's gonna take the memories or it's gonna take that file and gonna go back into the hard drive and another piece of you is gonna come out. So, and it's like a giant sun with rays. Every one of those rays are a different life, but the sun is really still part of you, you see? So it's not in and out like that. So a medium can still tap into the consciousness and the personality of that Gabby. Of that aspect of the soul. Yes, because I, I was taught this by Brian too, um- The soul is multidimensional. It's here, it's in the past, it's in the future. And Brian too says, "How do you know it's not in another universe?" Yeah. And I know that sounds mind-blowing to some people, and people are gonna be like this, "Oh, God, that's a bunch of mumbo jumbo." We're trying to make physical words and physical sense out of something that is so spiritual and scientific that words can't be placed to it. But I love that. There's a hard drive for your soul. Mm-hmm. And there's different aspects of the soul that enter in at different times. It goes back. And then when that aspect goes back, another aspect can come in. Yeah. But that aspect of your soul that was the Gabby aspect- Yeah ... can still be working on the- Exactly ... spiritual realm- Yeah ... to help those- Right that were connected to Gabby. Soul's multidimensional. It's not just one, this one thing. Very cool. Yeah. That's so cool. You talk a lot about mental telepathy. Mm-hmm. What is mental telepathy, and how do we bridge this world to the world beyond? I think I find that husband and wives do it all the time too, like they know what the other's thinking. It's natural because it's like, it's like an energy thing that happens. But when I'm doing mediumship, it's m- it's called mental mediumship. Not mental mental, because it's all done through telepathy. Because they have no voice on the other side, and that's what I try to tell my audience is, like, "Please work with me. I'm talking to somebody on the other side that has no voice box anymore, so they are sending their thoughts." So the person on the other side is sending their thoughts to me, "Say bird. Say Anna. Say Italy. Say..." So I'm picking up mentally, tel- telepathically, um, what they're sending me, and I'm talking to them back quickly, saying, "But what is that? Give it to me again. Give it to me again." And if somebody, if they give me something, um, an image, okay, um, I hold onto it just for a flash of a second. That's called mind mapping- Yeah ... because it lets the, one picture can speak a thousand words. You heard that sa- Yes ... expression? Yes. So mind mapping is, don't just say, "Oh, cardinal," or, "Mona Lisa." Look at it just for a second in your mind's eye and say, "Oh, they're showing me the Mo- the..." So you went to see the actual picture of Mona Lisa what your mother, and you two stood in front of it and agree- Right. You need to take a m- take a minute to see it. Exactly. Okay. So that's called mind mapping. Okay. So that's all done through telepathy. So I'm actually getting total downloads right now, and so I wanna welcome in, as we always do on this show, the guides, my guides, which are the guides for this community, the, the, The Dear Guides show guides. I wanna hear from them what the afterlife is. Let's see what comes through. Welcoming in whoever comes through for John, if that happens, because we don't wanna force that, and we can't force that. Right. It's whatever comes through naturally. Um, but in this moment what I'm hearing is, uh, m- definitely that there is this, this energy of peace and serenity. There's no ego, and there's no agenda There's no agenda. Right. There's desire to serve, though. That might be like, it's not really agenda, but it's like, it's like purpose. Sure. There's purpose. Yeah, yeah. And to not be afraid of the afterlife. Right. To not be afraid of it. Yeah. To, to think and talk about it. And they're showing me my son Ollie, and how I talk to him about, "Oh, there's life after death." Right. "And there's angels." Yeah. "And there's Grandma, and there's, there's, you know, my great-grandma, his great-grandmother." And that we just sort of have dialogue about it very simply. Yeah, yeah. And sort of giving yourself this permission to just be at peace with the fact that there's more. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. This is, um, really important. Beautiful. Yeah. Kids, if you're gonna notice too, kids start asking about the afterlife right around his- Seven, yeah. Absolutely. And they're wondering, they start talking about the afterlife and angels and, you know, they get nervous about, uh, uh- Something happening to their parents, I think their, it's their soul waking up a little more. Yeah. Yeah. Waking up a little bit more and, um, and, and, and, and giving themselves, uh, a, a little bit of a s- sensation of the groundedness of what it is to be here- Yeah ... but also the n- the fact that they're still so psychically open to what's happening- Right ... beyond here. But th- I think he's blessed because he has you for a mom, right? So when your kid starts saying to you, please everyone, when your kid starts saying, "Mom, someone's in my room," what do they look like? What are they, what are they wearing? Take out the photograph book and just go through it, and your child might point to your grandfather and say, "That's, that's, that's, that's Al, the guy in my room. That's my grandfather." Kids are very, very aware. Have an open conversation. Then you're gonna have people that force the kids to be psychic, like the pageant girl, you know? Yeah. Don't be a pageant mother when it comes to your psychic kids. Yeah. Let them be natural. It's just another abilities. 'Cause some kids that are quite intuitive, like me, I was ca- I was bullied and made afraid to, you know, to bring it out. It's okay to, you get the e- let the parent get the education first, and then teach your child. Yeah, neutralize it, too. I was at, um, a birthday party with my son and all the kids were actually strangely, there was this park and then right next to the park was a, uh, was a cemetery. And so all the kids just wanted to hang out in the cemetery. And no joke, these kids were all on this hill- Right ... just hanging out in a cemetery. And I, there w- my, my son started screaming my name. "Mommy, Mommy, come up here, come up here." And I was like, "Okay." So I walk up and he goes, "Mommy, I told everybody that you talk to angels and God." And I was like, "Yep, I do." And then I was like, uh, e- just normalizing it. I was like- Right ... "But that's not for everybody. Some of you might agree. Some of you might not agree." Right. "Ollie and I talk about this. This is what we believe, but it might not be for you." Yeah. "Your parents or your friends might teach you something else." And all the girls were like, "I believe in angels." Yeah. And this one little girl walks up to me, and she just grabs me by the hand and we start walking back, and she goes, "Ollie tells me you're a priestess." True. "And that you talk to God." Yeah. And it's just, you know, if we have these casual conversations with our children, just like we're talking about the smoothie we made for breakfast- Exactly it can be in their lexicon, and it can be still developed in their mind. Right. And it doesn't have to, and it actually will help them as, as they age because they'll have that sense of the beyond, and they'll have- Absolutely ... a sense of, of a connection. Yeah. And, and that, that's very important for, for me with my relationship to my son. To help us keep bringing these spiritual deep dives every week, we have some incredible sponsors supporting today's episode. We'll take a quick break to hear from our sponsors. There is a habit that I've had for decades now, actually. It's been going on for a long time. I've had this beautiful habit, and it is the habit of waking up every single morning and taking my AG1. This is a product I've used for years. Years, years, years. And I like it because it's the simplest way to start my day. It's one scoop, eight ounces of cold water, and I just give my body the high-quality nutrition support before the day even gets busy. And it feels like the easiest way to just reset my day, to set my g- my gut up, to support my gut health, to support my immune health. It's the health drink with a multivitamin, prebiotics, probiotics, superfoods, and antioxidants. And I just love it because it fits so seamlessly into my lifestyle, into my morning program. And now there's the next-gen formula, and it has 75-plus ingredients and is clinically shown to support gut health, fill common nutrient gaps, and improve key nutrient levels within three months. And I love this product. Like I said, I use AG1 because it really helps me stay consistent, especially when my schedule is full. So you can visit AG1.com/gabby and get a free AG1 flavor sampler and a free bottle with vitamin D3 and K2 in your welcome kit and your first AG1 subscription order. That's drinkAG1.com/gabby. And you know I'm always looking for some simple ways to support my wellness, and lately I've been thinking more about how I can make it even easier. And that simple way, that simple path, is with AG1 Another way that I've been working on supporting my wellness is my dental health. I have had a lot of stuff go on with my teeth, and so I've been really trying to pay close attention to this. And honestly, I wanna really make sure that everyday things like coffee, tea, acidic foods can no- not wear my enamel down, because they do. And honestly, I want taking care of my teeth to feel really simple, and so that's why I love Laurine Co, because they sent me their gum, and I'm a huge fan. The flavors are so good. They taste delicious. My mouth feels fresh after I chew, and I keep it in my bag and reach for it after a coffee, after a meal, while traveling, or even when I just have, like, an easy moment where I need to just refresh myself. And Laurine Co is better for you chewing gum that uses the same minerals that your teeth are made of to support daily enamel health. This mineral is really helpful to your enamel, and it helps strengthen enamel and repair damage. The gum is doing more than freshening your breath. It's an effortless way to give your teeth extra support while you're already moving through your day. I also love that Laurine Co makes a fluoride-free toothpaste that is absolutely perfect for my teeth. It's also easy and practical and genuinely enjoyable to use. So if you're looking for a small wellness upgrade that fits seamlessly into your life, this is such a good one. It's a product that makes caring for yourself feel natural instead of, like, one of the more tasks that we have to do every day. So right now, Laurine Co is offering our listeners up to 50% off at buylaurine.com/gabby. That's B-U-Y-L-A-R-I-N-E.com/gabby for up to 50% off. That's deargabby.com/dearguideslive to join me live in New York for our first ever Dear Guides live experience. I can't wait to see you there. What's the one thing that surprised you most about what's on the other side? Is the love and the colors. The love and the colors. Yes. Yeah. The colors. Yeah. Yes. That is actually something that I've read about a lot- Mm-hmm ... is the colors. Like, the bright colors. Yeah. And lots of white. Well, I went... Brian took me to a regression once- Yes and I, I... When you hear people say you can't describe the colors, it's true. Yeah. I was, I saw it, so. Yeah. Yeah. There you go. Okay, great. Um, is there suffering on the other side? Never. Never. Never. If you had somebody that was a piece of work here, okay, not the nicest, they do not go over there with that. They will come to me with that personality. You know how I just said the grandmother? If they were a piece of work, they're gonna give me that personality only to show you who I'm talking to, that it's not there anymore. Okay? They see that through the life review. That is gone. Got it. Okay? Okay. Yep. They're not, they're not in that ego anymore. No. That's right, yeah. Can our loved ones on the other side hear us? Yes. Yes. Talking to them, even thinking. Yes. I m- I don't think every single word, but the ones that you're thinking with, with the emotion of love with it, okay? They know if we're sad. And a lot, we miss them, but they don't miss us like we miss them because they are, you've heard this before, because they are with us. But if you send the, if you're thinking of them, right, make sure there's love with it. Okay? Send the emotion of love with it 'cause I think it helps it travel even faster. Love that, 'cause love is the bridge. That's right. Beautiful. Okay. What's one thing people completely get wrong about death? That that's it, finito. Yeah. When it's not. And a few people have asked this, they said, "Joe, what's gonna happen to my dad? He was an atheist, didn't believe in any of this at all." And I said, "He'll be s- he'll be shocked o- over there." Oh my God, this is real. I've, I've seen it happen. Yeah. Right? So it doesn't matter what faith you have. And think about it, almost all faiths talk about the afterlife, too, right? Yeah. So- It just seems like it's probably easier to pass if you have faith and- Somebody passes from an accident, so they're a little confused at first. All right? And I don't believe anybody is stuck There are different planes to the spirit world. There's different levels. I believe, you know, you got the etheric, the physical, the etheric, the mental, the casual, the celestial. I believe that in time, after we keep incarnating, it- you're gonna go to a different level. I don't believe anyone's ever stuck, and people are gonna come at that, because people say, "No, there are people here that are earthbound. They're a ghost." And you know, okay, I've never experienced that. I believe that there are different levels to the spirit world, and it may take some time to go to the next level, to the next level. Okay. Yeah. And, and Louise and Wayne, they've already, they're up there. Yeah. You see what I mean? Yeah. We can put them up in the s- you know, can you put them up in the guide kind of area? Yes. Angels- I think they are guides ... absolutely. I really do. Yeah. Do- does that mean, so if we had teachers, spiritual teachers, and leaders in the physical form that now have passed, and they've really been spiritually aligned in the physical, is it possible that they're now guides? Yes, elevator up. Elevator up. They're past the first floor, the second floor, the third floor. Okay. Yep, elevator up. I think Wayne and Louise are definitely guides. Yeah. Yeah. For sure. Think about that. You- Does that mean that their soul doesn't come back? I think, um, remember, different parts. Right. So aspects of their soul- Yeah ... can come back in. Yep. Okay. Is there, um, ever a point where the soul decides to stop coming back? I've never s- I've never heard anybody say that. I think, um, with me, I wanna take a little break first. You wanna take a break. You know what I mean? I'll take a little break. Okay. Yeah. I'll be a guide for a little while too. Yeah. But I think it's a choice. I don't think it's- Yeah ... straight here to- Yeah ... 'cause you hear people coming back right away, then you hit 200 years- Yeah ... and it's been proven over and over again about people that are being reincarnated, and then they find that life, too, so- Okay ... I, and one thing about this work, Gabby, mediumship, I love doing it, but I find it all fascinating, especially watching mediums, and even when I'm doing, it's not about ego. When I'm watching it, it's happening in front of me, I'm like, "Wow. Do it again." Yeah. Yeah. I give them the credit- Yeah ... because I'm not doing the work. I'm just a good tube. Yeah. They're the ones. Well, you're working with them. I'm working with them. For someone who's lost a loved one, what's the number one thing you want them to know? That they are still there. That keep talking to them. Keep talking to them. And a lot of people, Gabby, will run to a medium right away. You need time to heal, to grieve. And I say, those on the other side, let them be home for a while. Yeah. Let them go visit for a while. Be, wait before you run to a medium, because, um, you're not ready to hear maybe what comes through. Beautiful. Love that. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. John, I wanna do a meditation for our audience to be able to connect to their deceased loved ones on the other side, and I'm also gonna see if I can make a connection now as well. I've started to feel my grandmother and my son, Owen, and I wanna, I wanna give everybody a chance to use this time with us- Sure to connect to their loved ones. Yeah. Or return to this video- Sure ... whenever they need it. Okay. Yeah. And so John's gonna guide us through this beautiful practice of connecting to our heart. Yeah. Just relax. And this is called the heart pull I want you to picture someone that has passed Someone special to you? And imagine a cord is going from your heart to theirs. Okay? It's tight. It's a tight cord. You could... It could be a filament, could be cord, a string. It's tight. All right? And say their name in your mind They're already connected to you at the end of that cord, heart to heart No As your hands are placed on your heart, there's going to be three pulls that I want you to do. And pull meaning you're just gonna push your hands into your heart. Okay? As you push in the first one, just push in your hand, just like a tug. I feel you Another one. I love you. Push in. It's almost like you're tugging on that string, tugging on that chord Speak now. That's the third one. All right, just take a moment Still breathe. Still breathing nice and easy But they're still connected, that cord I want you to ask, what do you want me to feel right now? What do you want me to feel right now? Now, sometimes it's the grief part of us, sadness or grief, but below that, underneath that, what do you want me to feel? Is it warmth? Love? Presence? Me to remember right You want me to remember? It comes no rushing. Is it a memory? A word? Really? What do you want me to remember? Ease the cord a little. Just relax your hands Take those answers into your heart Do you want me to feel? Do you want me to remember? Chord? It's not your imagination. You're just remembering Every time you place your hands on your heart, know that they're there. That's where they reside, in your heart, those memories, that love Free heart pull Gentle heart pull You do that any time you wish. Pushing down on your hands, tugging, gently I always say when you come back moving your hands and your feet, it's good to write down what your answers were. Write down what your answers were And that's his, that is the, the gentle heart pull because y- it's active That was so beautiful I feel you. I love you speak now Feel you. I love you. Speak now. Speak now. Yep. I had my grandmother's, um, she said, "Feel calm and peace," and immediately I took this really deep breath. Yeah. She showed me, it was a sort of surprise. It wasn't, like, anything special, but it was, like, her little patio in Florida, and then the nice clean bedroom I had, and the clean bathtub because I loved to- What you want me to remember? Is that- Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So- Yeah ... some people think a pyramid or a giant angel. I'd rather take your, your grandmother's patio. I, I loved the grandmother- I loved my grandmother's patio, and I loved the, the, the clean bathtub, and what she was showing me was that the cleanliness of the home was sort of, like, not how I was brought up, but it was just sort of like, "This was peaceful for you." Yeah. "And this was nurturing for you." Beautiful. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. She was, she was a safe energy for me. Beautiful. Yeah, and grounding energy for me. Yeah. Did you spend a lot of time with her? I did. It w- Yeah, I would go and visit her quite a bit by myself. Yeah, I did. And yeah, she's, she show, she shows up for me all the time, Grammy Fritzie. Mom's mom? Mom's mom. Wild woman. As we close the show, I'm gonna pick a card from one of John's decks, and what's the name of the deck again, John? This is Spirit Messages. We'll link to it below in the description and below the video. So this is a deck where you let the spirit world, uh, say what it wants to you. You can do three cards, one card, and sometimes it's good to just pull it for the day or if you have a question Gratitude. Life is one big continuous circle of giving and receiving energy. Be thankful for who and what's in your life instead of complaining about what you don't have. If you focus on gratitude, you'll start to attract prosperity and abundance. Is that the purple card with the guy? Yes. Isn't that beautiful? Stunning. Yes. These cards are beautiful. This is gratitude, everybody. Let me hold that up for you. You can see the little blue butterflies on the back. Mm-hmm. My little sign. I'm so glad that you stuck around to the end of this episode, because now I know that you have a practice, many practices thanks to John, for connecting with your loved ones. And I particularly love the practice that you gave us for looking at their picture, their smiley, bright, shiny face, and grounding ourselves in meditation so we can call in that relationship back into our physical experience while they're in the spiritual realm. I know that if you're still watching to the end, that means you are super into this content, so make sure to subscribe to our show. We're gonna be putting out a lot of meditations and more practices with our guides. If you would like to join me live for Dear Guides Live, November 21st, where I will be joined by other psychic mediums to give you the messages from the divine, from beyond, help you connect to your own psychic abilities, and start to get into a relationship with your own spiritual support team, then go to deargabby.com/dearguideslive or click the link in the description. And if you're watching right now, you were guided here. You are meant to be part of this community. You are on your own soul's path of remembering what your spirit wanted you to be experiencing, learning, unlearning, and remembering in this lifetime. And that's a big deal. You've chosen to be part of this community. You've said yes, and that's gonna be very beneficial for you as you move through your life. I'm really proud of you for being part of this community, and I love you, and I can't wait to see you at Dear Guides Live. Stick around for the miracles.
