When people say to me, “I don’t have time to meditate,” I have the same response every time. I say, “Do you have time to feel like crap?”

Watch this video or keep reading for guidance on how to find time to meditate…

You have time to meditate

Do we have time to feel like crap? No, we don’t. We don’t have time to feel low-level energy, to feel stuck, to feel disconnected from the Universe.

We need to feel vibrant and vital, and we need to have a sense of intuition rising up. In order to move through obstacles, we need to feel at peace. Five minutes a day spent in meditation can give you that presence of stillness that can carry you for the rest of the day.

i deserve a mind at peace spirit junkie app gabby bernsteinThe next time you ask yourself, “Do I have time to meditate?” or the next time you hear your ego say, “I don’t have time to meditate,” remind yourself that one to five minutes a day can change your life. Give yourself that gift.

Whether you’re listening to a guided meditation or you’re just listening to your own breath, that practice will lead you into a more centered state and set you up to win.

The next time you say, “I don’t have time to meditate,” hear my voice in the back of your mind saying, “Do you have time to feel like crap?”

The 1-minute breath

No matter how busy you are, you can follow a simple meditation from my book Miracles NowIt takes just one minute. You have time to meditate!

One minute of day spent in stillness can change your life. Commit to one minute a day and use this practice to silence your mind and calm your energy.

For one minute, follow this breathing technique:

Breathe in for 5 seconds

Hold your breath for 5 seconds

Release for 5 seconds

Hold for 5 seconds

Practice this breath pattern for one minute a day, ending with an exhale. See? You do have time to meditate.

  1. Once I started reading your books and practicing daily meditations, miracles flowed into my life bigger, brighter and faster than I could have “made” happen by completing everything on my “to-do” list. So I know I save time when I make time to meditate. Thank you Gabby!!!!

  2. I love this meditation guide. I am a music teacher in an elementary school. I meditate while walking into the classroom. I meditate everyday while on the way from train station to school. I meditate 1 minute in 10 minutes break time. Meditation makes me feel more grounded, more still , more peaceful and more connected with my inner soul. Thanks Gabby.

  3. These are great tips Gabby! I haven’t meditated whilst I’ve been cooking, however I will be sure to try that next!

    I love your work.

  4. Gabby, this is completely true! I believe this post can be used with self-care as well. If you don’t have time to exercise, eat right, relax, and mediate will you have time to get sick?? If you aren’t taking time out of your day to practice self-care, you will eventually have to take time out of your day to get sick..! Thanks for this great post! 🙂

  5. This reminder came and JUST the right time. Lately I’ve been feeling like life is just whizzing around me at all times and I’m just getting caught up in it all. I have your Miracles Now book on all my devices, but hadn’t opened the book in a while. I’m going to make a renewed effort to read one of the passages a day 🙂 Thank you for your amazing work Gabby!

  6. Gabby, I love your tough-love question of, “Do you have time to feel like crap?” I’ll absolutely be using that when I feel like I don’t have time for meditation and self-care! You really do save time in the long run when you take care of your physical, emotional, and spiritual needs FIRST.

  7. Sooo I don’t want to sound ignorant or negative but I ran into this page on zite (news reader based on interests) and in all honesty, clicked cuz the girl was crazy hot (shallow but prob not the only one) Watched brief video and thought “how meditation could really have an effect” I mean you just sit there and hum, and breath. And let alone 5 minutes of it, idk how 5 minutes of anything can make changes (ie working out for 5 minutes a day is better than nothing I guess but i don’t think it’s going to yield life transforming results). Anyways u just think it’s blizzard that people invest so much energy into meditation, but it does seem interesting.

  8. This has been my excuse for the last few months! I used to meditate religiously, every single morning for at least 5 minutes, but since I got very busy and overwhelmed with various projects, I dropped the ball…

This is a good reminder, since I need to relieve the stress and stay connected. I’m committing to a regular practice again! 🙂

  9. LOVE this! It’s so easy to think we don’t have time to look after ourselves but this is such sensible advice. From now on I’m totally going to hear your voice in the back of my head ‘do you have time to feel like crap?’. Erm, – NO!! Thank you for sharing 🙂

  13. Yesterday on super soul Sunday, Gabby said something that really clicked with me. My memory is a bit impaired so I am not sure that I am remembering it correctly. Could you let me know where I can read more about this strategy? This is what I remember: Listen for the internal voice. Listen for the assignment. Show up for the task. When she said this I realized that I’ve heard a voice several times however I ignored it because I thought it was me thinking negatively… Feeling overwhelmed or depressed.

Where can I read more about this strategy? Thanks so much!!
