Note: I updated this post in December 2018 for clarity and additional resources.
In this post I want to talk about balancing. How do we make our spiritual practice a daily routine rather than something that has a finish line?
It’s all about balance
A lot of times people think, “Okay, I can go take that course, or I can listen to that workshop, or go to that retreat, and then I’m done. I’m saved. It’s over.”
But our spiritual practice is a daily practice. Constant contact with our inner guidance system is what gives us the biggest benefits, benefits that are long lasting.
I talk about this more in chapter 2 of Add More ~ing to Your Life, so order the book for a deeper dive into this concept!
3 steps to finding balance and living a spiritual life
It’s important to identify the ways that you’ve expected things to work immediately, and then begin to redirect that thinking.
In this post, and in the video below, I share 3 steps to help redirect your thinking from a finish-line mentality to, “How can I bring this practice into my daily life one day at a time?”
Step 1: Focus on the day
The first step is to take it one day at a time, and keep your focus in that day. Each day we wake up and have a new opportunity to become balanced, to connect to our inner guidance system and to become more miracle minded.
Rather than saying, “I’m going to spend this one week or this month on my practice,” say, “I’m going to sit here and take this day to show up for my ~ing-like thinking.” Make a commitment to yourself one day at a time to practice this kind of work and create a balanced flow of spirituality, serenity and inner peace daily.
A lot of times people say to me, “Oh, I did that workshop,” or “I did that retreat.” I look at them and I say, “Wonderful! Congratulations. But what did you do today?”
That’s the main thing. Focus on the day. Stay in the day.
Step 2: Find a routine
The second step for balance is finding a balancing activity. Rebounding has become really powerful for me. It’s one of the main exercises that I do for balance.
I have this amazing mini trampoline in my apartment, and I’ll get on it throughout the day and say my affirmations. I’ll listen to music and I’ll clear my mind. I’ll spend 20 to 30 minutes on that trampoline and immediately I’m balanced again. It’s an incredible routine.
You can jump on a mini trampoline, you can dance, you can skip rope, you can go for a walk. You can do it for 5 minutes or 30 minutes. Put on inspirational music and repeat affirmations that empower you!
Step 3: Establish a meditation practice
The final step is to meditate. Having a daily meditation practice keeps you in that centered place and connected to your inner guidance system. It will also help you continue to ask and listen for that guidance.
I want to make meditating easy for you, so I have created these free guided meditations!
Even if you’ve struggled to meditate in the past, you’ll find it easy and relaxing to follow my guided meditations.
